Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Redraw Pakistan collects, why it is collected, how public gallery submissions differ from private records, and the choices available to participants.

1. Who operates this project

Redraw Pakistan is an independent, non-partisan map-making project. It is not a government service, political party, election campaign, or representative opinion poll. Privacy questions can be sent to redrawpakistan@gmail.com.

2. Information we collect

Map and submission information

When you create a map, we may store its name, caption, district assignments, administrative-unit names and colours, unit types, rationale categories, written rationales, overall explanation, validation notes, timestamps, version information, and a random project or response identifier.

Account information

If you choose to sign in, we collect the email address used for account access, an internal account identifier, and any optional public display name. Email addresses are kept separate from the de-identified analytical response record and are never displayed in the public gallery.

Operational information

We store information required to operate the service, including draft-recovery credentials, moderation status and notes, likes, publication permissions, and security or administrative audit records. Hosting and authentication providers may process ordinary technical logs, such as IP address, browser, and request information, for security and service delivery. These logs are not added to the map-analysis dataset.

3. How we use information

  • Save, recover, display, validate, and export the map you create.
  • Provide account access and show signed-in users their maps and submission status.
  • Moderate gallery requests and notify creators about approval, rejection, or requested revisions.
  • Generate aggregate statistics about submitted administrative designs and rationale patterns.
  • Prevent abuse, investigate technical problems, and protect the project and its users.
  • Communicate material changes to the service, Terms, or Privacy Policy. We do not send marketing email.

4. What becomes public

Completing or downloading a map does not publish it. A map appears in the public gallery only when its creator explicitly requests publication, grants permission, and the submission is approved through moderation. Public records may show the map, caption, administrative units, rationales, overall explanation, public reference, creator-selected display name or “Anonymous,” and like count.

Your email address, private recovery credential, account identifier, moderation-only notes, and deletion credential are never intentionally published.

5. Service providers and disclosure

We use service providers to host the site and database, deliver authentication, and operate necessary infrastructure. These providers process information on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect safety, investigate abuse, or defend the project’s legal rights. We do not sell personal information.

6. Retention

Anonymous inactive drafts are normally retained for up to 30 days. Signed-in drafts remain available until the user deletes them or the account. Completed analytical responses may be retained for longitudinal and aggregate analysis until withdrawn or deleted. Gallery and moderation records are retained while the submission remains active and as reasonably necessary to maintain an audit trail, handle disputes, or meet legal obligations.

7. Your choices and rights

You may download without creating an account. Signed-in users can manage their saved maps and may request account, project, analytical-response, or gallery removal. Depending on applicable law, you may also request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or a copy of personal information associated with your account. We may need to verify that the requester controls the relevant account or private project credential.

Use the Content Removal page or email redrawpakistan@gmail.com.

8. Security, children, and international processing

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Do not place private or sensitive personal information in a map name, caption, province name, or rationale.

The service is not intended for children under 13. People below the age at which they can independently consent to online services in their country should participate only with a parent or guardian.

Information may be processed outside your country by the project’s hosting and authentication providers. Local privacy rights continue to apply where required by law.

9. Policy changes

We may update this policy as the project develops. Material changes will be posted here with a revised effective date and, where appropriate, communicated to registered users.
